Belfast ferry boat men

Trying to find out history of the ferry boat men on the lurgan my greatgrand farther was one also his farther Jeremiah Boyce he was Oslo known for saving a lot of life's after they fell in the river lots of the Boyce firmly worked as ferry men was there a toll and there was the crossing the family lived in joy st my nan a Boyce born in Roy st then lived in Balfour avenue

I think you mean the Lagan.

I can see a few mentions in newspapers of c1858/9 of a ferryman named Jeremiah Boyce in Belfast. Would these dates fit with your great grandfather?

Also mention of Mr. Thomas Boyce's boathouse, Balfour Avenue, Belfast, in 1905.

Yes Jeremiah was a boat man then he died in 1881 one of this grandsons
Also Jeremiah but called him self Jerry also is on record later for life saving

Born: 1891-09-13, Belfast, Co. Antrim, Ireland

Birth Certificate shows the above Jeremiah was born to a Thomas Boyce ( a compositer) and Elizabeth McIlroy at 62 Cooke Street.

Was your Jeremiah the one born a few years before, in 1886, to Patrick and Mary Boyce, 45 Roy Street?

Yes scotmum my greatgrandad Patrick’s son Jeremiah but he died aged two
Same year my nan Margaret Boyce was born
