Trying to find Henry Constantine Jennings - Photographer
« on: Wednesday 01 August 18 12:21 BST (UK) »
I trying to find details about Henry Constantine Jennings (1843 in Paris, France – Unknown). The son of Henry Constantine Jennings (1791 in Liverpool - 1873 in Lambeth) married to Marie Victorine Clery (1811 in Paris, France – Unknown). He was a Physician/Chemist and they obviously lived in France, later Southwark and then Camberwell.

Henry Constantine Jennings is a Photographic Artist in Camberwell in 1861 and marries Elizabeth Barry (in 1871). He was a photographer in Norwich, Norfolk and in Hastings, Sussex.
He also operated in Grosvenor Road, Kent and Bridge Street, Chester. Finally ending up in Romford Road, Manor Park, London (1890s).

I wonder if he or the family are connected to Henry Constantine Jennings [later Nowell], (1731–1819), collector, the son of Henry Jennings and his wife, Susannah Kent (1723–1791), who was baptized on 15 August 1731 at Shiplake, Oxfordshire, where his father owned the estate.

Any assistance appreciated

FindMyPest has:
Henry Constantine JENNINGS born 12 Jul 1816 (bapt 20 Jul 1816 St Marylebone) son of Henry Constantine & Mary.  Buried 11 Jan 1817 Westminster (burial register image gives age as 6mo)

There may be an extra generation between Henry (1791-1873) and Henry (born 1843 Paris)?

FindMyPest has the marriage banns of Henry to Marie Victorine Clery 17 Jun 1838 in Kent. (image: Banns Jun 1838 St Mary the Virgin, Dover, both otp)

If Susannah was born in 1723 she would have been 8 when her son was baptised.  Was she a late baptism?

The wiki article on the collector Henry Constantine states : Jennings married, first, about 1760, Juliana Atkinson, who died in 1761, and by whom he had a son, John Henry;

Wiki article is at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Constantine_Jennings

The Lancashire Online Parish clerk has a John Henry Janeing [sic] baptising a son, Henry Constantine in 1791, but not in Liverpool:

Baptism: 16 Dec 1791 St Thomas, Ardwick, Lancashire, England
Henry Constantine Janeing - Son of John Henry Janeing & Comfort Mattilda
    Abode: Ardwick
    Register: Baptisms 1740 - 1812, Entry 20

Just putting it out there in case it fits in somehow!

fascinating tantalising piece in Yorkshire Gazette 26 October 1822  and other papers

".....It appears that Mr Hume...... actually employed a Mr Henry Constantine Jennings as a what shall we call it ___ spy or informer in order to enable him (Mr Hume) to make a charge of mal-practice in the government offices, with some chance of success."......

Carlisle Patriot 12 October 1822 - more than one HCJ?
