Nora Mountfield, Lostock Gralam, Cheshire

In the late 50s and early 60s, my brother and I used to visit a farm owned by Roy & Nora Mountfield near Lostock Gralam. The couple are located in the 1939 National Register @ Cape Farm, Plumley, Ches., living with Fanny Moore (b.1865) and Edith Ravencroft (b.1867), one or both of whom could be a relative and who are both retire & living on private means. Roy's dob is 13Oct16 and Nora's 29Dec14. Other Ravencrofts live nearby, possibly Edith's relative

My brother thinks Nora might be a relative. Unfortunately, I cannot trace Roy & Nora's marriage, which I presume to have taken place in Cheshire (but could be Lancs) and would give her maiden name to allow me to investigate further.

I'll need to investigate further but one obvious starting point is Roy's mother's maiden name, which may be a corruption of Owens, in which case I need her first name, probably b. around 1880. I'm a tad disappointed Ancestry did not pick up the corruption of Mountfield as I checked the name variant option. C'est la vie.

However, I shan't dismiss a Clarke connection.

I think, however, I will abandon the Owen line of enquiry and instead try to find a Clarke connection, to which the oral history evidence points.

So far, no joy on Nora's birth or parents.

I've done a bit of checking but cannot find a Florence Owen in my (extensive) tree. I have a Florence Owens but she was b in 1905 and remained unmarried in 1939.

As I say, it might me more fruitful to pursue Nora's Clarke connection, to which the oral history evidence points. If there is a connection, it's going to be in the Liverpool/Lancashire area, possibly Cheshire. So far, however, no joy.
