Which cemetery is "new cemetery" in Cardiff January 1899 please?
« on: Wednesday 01 August 18 22:24 BST (UK) »
Good evening and thank you for any help that can be given.

I have found a funeral notice for an ancestor in the South Wales Echo (Jan 7th 1899) stating that the funeral would take place "at 1pm on Tuesday.  New Cemetery".

Could anyone tell me which cemetery this is likely to be please and how best to find the actual plot?

Edit: After further research, I am assuming new cemetery is the part of Cathays that opened in 1896.  Does this seem right?

Many thanks,

Nic

Yes, part of Cathays cemetery, one of the oldest and biggest in the UK.

Cardiff council can provide free details of a burial plot from their computerised records from 1909. Before then, you will have to pay for a search, but i would suggest you contact them with the details and see what they say.

On the 1880 map the cemetery is called Cardiff New Cemetery
