Don't understand this baptism record
« on: Wednesday 01 August 18 22:30 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I'm hoping people can help me make sense of this. It's a baptism record for a Henrietta Sturgeon from 1787.

I think it says

'Henrietta Sturgeon lawful dau (meaning daughter I suppose!) to William Sturgeon Hester Winifred (?) Deacon Smith and William Schirk.

So I'm assuming that William Sturgeon and Hester are the parents? Are Deacon Smith and William Schirk the godparents or witnesses?

Thank you

;D Doing my best, but frequently wrong ;D
:-* My thanks to everyone who helps me, you are all marvellous :-*

What you have transcribed as "Winifred" is actually Witnesses ;D

Or rather Witneſses, using the Long 's'.

:D Ah I see, thank you very much. That makes much more sense!

So long Winifred, I hardly knew thee!  ;D

Does anyone know what the word after William Sturgeon says, the one that I thought was 'Hester'?

Thank you KGarrad and jennifer C
