FindMyPast DNA
« on: Thursday 02 August 18 11:58 BST (UK) »
Just saw a new button on FindMyPast toolbar - DNA

So I clicked it, and found their new page.

https://www.findmypast.co.uk/ancestry-dna-testing/

Further exploration took me to Living DNA, which is promising matches by 1 Nov if we upload results from elsewhere by 1 Oct.

It says,
Our brand new upload DNA Matching portal will be available for free and for a limited time. By being one of our early users, you’ll be one of the first to receive your matches when the new portal goes live as part of our Family Networks Beta celebration.

BUT it then goes on to say,
You will also have the option to upgrade your account to get further analysis of your results such as ethnicity breakdowns.

Which sounds like extra money.  :(

London - Notley, Elsom, Billett

Durham - Hepburn, Eltringham
Berwickshire - Guthrie, Crawford

I think they have finally realised that GEDmatch have been one step ahead of them in this respect for 2 or 3 years at least.

13:40 UPDATE.  I uploaded my MyHeritage data with no problem.  It was necessary to extract the data from the ZIP file, whereas GEDMatch accept the zip file.

Doesn't sound like extra money to me, I'm not interested in ethnicity!!!

Seriously, I wonder what else they will be charging for?
Thanks for the update,  I'll upload mine later on when I'm on my tablet.

This new venture was mentioned in an article here

https://cruwys.blogspot.com/

All I will say is LivingDNA would do well to get their website working properly before looking for new ventures, disgruntled customer  ::)
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

The free GEDMatch site also says you can upgrade your account to get further analysis of your results using Tier 1 services.

It is a common business model across the internet.

Tier 1 has been available for a few years.

I dont mind the model and understand it but I would never utilise it until that number comes up!

I have just discovered that ftDNA will also let you upload your data to their site.

I've uploaded mine to FTDNA a while ago, Martin.

With a free upload you only get closish matches. More distant matches are only available if you test with them. It's still worth fishing in another pond, though.
