St Mary's Workhouse - Burial 1798
« on: Thursday 02 August 18 13:11 BST (UK) »
Please could anyone possibly look up a burial for me?

All I know is that Jack (no surname) who died at the workhouse was reputed to have been buried May 1798. I do realise this might be an impossible ask, but it's the only information I have right now!

Many thanks

A quick check on findmypast has nothing for a Jack. The National Burial Index has 682 men called John buried in Nottinghamshire. Do you know where this Workhouse is in Nottinghamshire?

The workhouse was between Mansfield Road and York Street, so fairly central. My guess would be Rock Cemetery on Mansfield Road, but it's a guess as it's the closest one. He could have been buried as John, I really don't know. I said this was a difficult one :)

Thanks as always Larkspur for checking. He was definitely at Nott'm workhouse so Clarborough would have been way out of his area. :)

I may be wrong on this but thought that The Rock cemetery did not open until the 1850's.
There are 69 Johns in Nottingham St Mary. 16 in St Nicholas. 7 in St Peter.
Can we help to see if there is any more info to be found on him? How, for instance have you come by the information you already have?
Not seen you on here for a while Babygirl, hope you are keeping well.
