Trying to work out the surname of Alice (4th from the bottom). Image is from the 1891 census.
Benson (London), Budd (London), Tilbury (Surrey), Norman (Cambs), Tilbury (Surrey), Legg (Surrey), Darby (Devon), Martin, Attwood, Tovey, Turner, Farmer, Carroll, Lideard, Clark, Drinkwater (all Glos.)

It almost looks to me like Elysee.  But maybe someone else can do better!

So was Alice a Budd or a Legg?

She was a Budd born in Dover, Kent 1861/62.

Do you have her birth registration? I can't find her in the GRO indexes, so I'm wondering if she ever used any other name - forename or surname.

There are also no Budd birth registrations at all in the Dover district from 1855 to 1865, though there are some elsewhere in Kent.

I know, I've been through everything. Very long story! Henry Budd doesn't seem to be registered either. His full name was actually William Henry Budd born in Southampton, father Robert Budd. If I could only establish the married name, I could probably get somewhere.

Quite possibly - I was trying to go the other way and find some possible names to look for the marriage with.

Looking back further, since Henry seems not to have been registered either, but you nevertheless have a father's name, do you know if their parents married? What's going through my mind is that if they didn't actually marry, Henry and Alice's births should have been registered with their mother's surname - and Alice might have used that to get married as well.

I have Robert Budd from the marriage certificate of (William) Henry Budd to Charlotte Legg.
