Herbert Cooper
« on: Thursday 02 August 18 23:29 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm trying to help a friend out who is looking for parents of his Grandfather, Herbert Cooper b 27 Oct 1891 in Wednesbury, Staffordshire. d Dec 1951 Wednesbury, Staffordshire.
I have checked the 1901 and 1911 census and can only find his Gr-Grandmother Jane, on those census records along with son Herbert. His Gr-grandmother Jane Cooper b circa 1862 is listed as widowed along with son Herbert Cooper.
Sorry, but this is all the information I have so it may be a none start
Thank you for any help you maybe able to give

Dave

Who does he name as his father on his marriage cert?

Is this his birth reg?

December qtr 1891
Herbert Cooper      W.Bromwich    6b   859

Haven't you checked for his mothers maiden name using

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp

Then use freebmd to find his parents marriage using that maiden name

Haven't you checked GRO online - link above to establish his mothers maiden name?   I am assuming that if your friend had the birth cert he would already know the parents names?

Think this is possibly his parents marriage at the same church as Herbert's baptism.

16 December 1890

William Cooper bachelor age 22, bolt & iron forger of Darlaston. Father: William Cooper - shoemaker
Jane VARDEN spinster age 21 of Meeting Street. Father : John Varden

Both signed
Witnesses: Henry Haddocks (X) and Harriet Varden

Jane actually signed VARDEY but she crosses it out and puts Varden in the marriage register.
The maiden surname on the GRO birth entry for Herbert is VARDY.
