Is your John, son of John and Rebecca, also baptised at Selby?

John Marsden, son of John (Sailor) and Rebecca Bentley of Selby, baptised 9 August 1835.

Ermmmm!  I'm now a little confused because I can see that John Bentley (36, Waterman and a widower) married SARAH Marsden (21) by Banns at Selby Abbey on 8 May 1803, by Licence.  Both signed the register.

Hello, thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I appreciate your help! I remain confused.
Let me see if I understand this:
John Bentley of Selby married Rebecca Morley in 1827
His father was John Bentley* of Selby, a waterman who was married to (someone) but became widowed and then married Sarah Marsden age 21 in 1803. The parents of this John Bentley* was William who was married to Mary Marsden and Mary Marsden's parents were Richard Marsden and Mary Green.
Good grief! too many Marys and Johns!! Still, I will add this information to my tree and see what happens. I have been stuck at this point for a while.
Thanks again for your help. Jayne

A possibility for John's first marriage  :-\

St Mary, Scarborough - 27 October 1788

John Bentley, 22, Mariner, and Ann Gouthorp, 24.  BOTP by Banns.

(At least it's not another Mary  :) )
