MULLEE DUBLIN
« on: Saturday 04 August 18 13:04 BST (UK) »
I am searchingly for information about my paternal grandad, Anthony Stephen Mullee, his DOB is 6/04/1934, I don't have a birth certificate for this but it is what it says on his grave. I can't find any information about him until he married my Nannan in Sheffield in September 1961, then his death in Sheffield in 2002. All that I know is what I have been told by various family members so it might not be accurate but I'm desperate to find this line, it would mean the world to my dad. So what I think I know is that him and his sister (I don't have a name) were from Dublin, and their mum gave them both up to a orphanage aged around 5 years old. It could just be rumour but some family have said his mum was very wealthy and owned a fur factory. He was Catholic too if that helps.

I was also wondering if his name will have been changed if he was in an orphanage?

If not information then could someone help me figure out what my next step is? Can I phone orphanages in Dublin and ask about him, or will they not disclose information? Who can I get in touch with to help me?

Thank you in advance, I would be so grateful for any help.

Would "Nannan"'s name be Margaret A. A Watkinson?
There is a record on "Family search " and Ancestry referring to a marriage for Anthony Mullee, married in District of Wortley.
"Familysearch" also have a record of his death in January 2002
Corri, Holland,
Newman, Kiernan,
Lyons, Murphy

Hello and welcome, Stacey  :)

Does his marriage certificate provide a father’s name?
I know you say there are certain beliefs re his birth but sometimes it could be a real help.

Don't see any contender for father.... if children were orphaned!

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01mgk/   Death results for Mullee from 1920 to 1934
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

I could possibly throw some light as to why the 2 young children were placed in an orphanage, from personal family history when my Grandmother died aged 35 and leaving young family behind my Grandad was left with no choice but to place the youngest in an orphanage until he remarried, his fear was that the authorities would take the entire family from him if attention was drawn to him been unable to have the youngest child cared for.

Mullee surname been very unusual I may have found a link that could be of interest to you.
An Ellen Mullee aged 32 who died in St Vincents hospital 22 December 1941.
At the time of her death Ellen was a 'Laundress' in Merrion Convent...im unsure as to whether this convent would have been one of the infamous Magdelene Laundries, but it may be worth researching?

There was also a death recorded for a Bridget Mullee aged 30 on 10 July 1944, her address was given as 27 Wilfield Park Ballsbridge, her husband John was an 'insurance agent', they had been married 8 years, on Johns marriage cert his occupation is noted as 'Gentleman', now Ballsbridge is known as one of the wealthiest suburbs of Dublin so this may tie in with your families 'rumours'.
