Parish records - Daniel New born Childrey, Berkshire
« on: Sunday 05 August 18 03:00 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am trying to link up Daniel New b. 7.1.1816 at Childrey, Berkshire, with my GGG Grandfather b. 1.5.1792 Ashbury.

Our Daniel New married Lucy Wootten at Reading in 1826, he later moved to Newbury, and was shown in 1841 Census in Wash Road, Newbury with his wife and family, and from then on most members of the New family remained in Newbury, or migrated to Australia from 1911 onwards.

However, this other Daniel New pops up every so often with Public Member Trees on Ancestry, and this one in particular was sentenced to 7 years transportation to Australia in 1834, travelling on board the Lady Nugent.

My question now is, is is possible that our Daniel New aged 34 years, a Hawker, at the time of his marriage to Lucy Wootten, possibly was married previously and this Daniel New the Convict was the product of his first marriage.

If anyone can assist me with Parish Records, would really appreciate that.

The Daniel New born 7 January 1816 baptized 21st was the son of Daniel New and Jane.

Daniel New married Jane Hearne at Childrey 4 December 1806.

This one cannot be your Daniel he would have 14/15 years old.

From the transportation and ticket of Freedom issued to Daniel New of Berkshire his birth is estimated at 1808/9 on the documents.
So not the one born 1816.

Okay, yes, then you are right.  Thanks for this.  Some mistakes in Public Member trees on Ancestry.

Okay then, maybe we would be looking at Parish Records for our Daniel New b. 1792, who may have married before 1826 to Lucy Wootten in Reading, just to see if we can find a previous marriage for him and any possible children, if any marriage found.

Thanking you.

Can you please tell me what this means Thomas Clayton/Martha Walker/Martha New, is that witnesses names to the marriage or whatever please.
St. Lawrence also, wondering where that is, (I live in Australia)

Hi

Yes,witnesses.sometimes they help and I think Martha might be William's sister?

St Lawrence is a neighbouring Reading parish possibly Daniel just stayed there to qualify under the marriage rules.
