Thomas Carroll, last seen in Liverpool 1851. What happened next?
« on: Sunday 05 August 18 12:24 BST (UK) »
Hi people,

Everything I know about Thomas Carroll comes from the 1851 census.
In that year he is in Wright Street, Liverpool with his parents (James & Catherine)
and sister (little Catherine).

He claims to have come from Ireland, born in the year 1835-36.
I can't find him in 1841 or any of the later censuses. He could still be in Ireland in 1841 so his absence from this particular census does not bother me much. But I would like to know what happened to him after 1851.

His parents moved to Chester Le Street by 1861 and it looks as though they died there soon after.

I have no idea what happened to sister Catherine.

In the case of Thomas, I can find several matches for him in 1861 and 1871 but they are scattered far and wide across England and none looks any more likely than the others.

I wonder, is there any clever way to separate him from all the lookalikes, based on the limited
information I have presented?

There's a Thomas Carroll, occupation Tailor, living as a boarder with the Loughlin family in Liverpool in the 1861 census. Born Ireland.

DC,

Are they the same families in the two censuses?

If I have the right one, they had moved to Durham by 1851/52. Daughter Ann was born abt 1852, Chester-Le-Street according to the census.
Have you found a death for young Catherine or a marriage in C-le-S?

As you say, Heywood, I can't guarantee that the families are the same. However the names, birth dates and birth locations for the parents match and they are the only match that I can see, nationwide.

I still can't haul up the 1861 Liverpool record. Familysearch, FindMyPast don't show it.
Trying FreeCen2 but still no success.

The record is definitely on FindMyPast, I just searched the reference groom gave. However if you are including his name in the search you won't have any luck because he's been wrongly transcribed as Cawell.
