Death in Girardville Pennsylvania 1867
« on: Sunday 05 August 18 14:16 BST (UK) »
My 2x grandfather Thomas Holt an Englishman died in the Girardville USA in 1867. His was taken to Oddfellows Cemetery in Tamaqua, Shuylkhill where a plot had been bought, but the strangers with the body were sent away because they had no death Certificate. Apparantly, according to a letter received by his wife in England, who had  inquired into his death, the Doctors bill had not been paid, so no Cert.
When I contacted the Oddfellows Cemetery I was informed that the grave plot is still empty. So is there any other way I can locate where he was buried or how he died ? What would they have done with a body, buried it illegally?
Any help appreciated.

It appears that there was a 'potters' field' in Tamaqua but its precise location is unknown.  You might learn something by addressing your question to the Tamaqua Public Library.

Thank you for your help.  I did contact the Library a couple of years ago with this search, but received no reply. Will have to try again.
