Seaweed...

I'm not sure about his signature - the one you gave me is on the bottom.  They look similar, but I can't decide, lol

Jayne, you should try and get hold of the Crew Agreement  and Logbook of TEESBRIDGE to find the name of his previous ship.
https://www.mun.ca/mha/holdings/viewcombinedcrews.php?Official_No=119879
The MN central personal records for the period of WW1 have been destroyed and no records were kept from 1857 to 1913. So back tracking via C/As is the only way to find out. Long winded and a little costly but possible.
I should be at Kew next week all being well and will endeavour to check the early 1903 C/As of MESABA.

Seaweed

As regards the Teesbridge, I've got that too (paid MUN for it in 2015) - his previous ship was the WAR JANDOLI.

I have him on NINE ships - I'll post the list I've created.

The signatures look pretty good to me - it looks like the same man.
Edit* I am looking at the top two but it is the bottom one I should be looking at :) There is some room for doubt*

I think so Hugh,
The dot over the "i" slightly to the right on all the signature's seems to be the same.

Jayne, Thanks for your list. I am intrigued  to find out if he served in WW1 and why he has no medal listing. Many seamen did not claim their medal entitlement.

Hi Hugh

Yes, it’s the bottom one that seaweed sent over and needs checking. The top two are from documents I have (census).

I would say the signatures look very similar indeed.

Hi Seaweed

I would love to find out more, but he just seems to be such a mystery...

I’m so glad ou everybody’s help.

Oh, and another thing on the signature comparison....

There’s a little ‘squiggle’ on the start of the ‘c’ of Scaife - it’s there on all 3...

Would you agree?

Yes, very similar indeed. I feel this seaman is worth checking in your search to rule in or out however as the previous ship is not mentioned on the C/A for WAR JANDOLI in 1919 we have a gap going back to 1912. We cannot at this stage positively link him as the same seaman in the 1915 C/A to ss AYDON and DELAWARE.
