The Kith & Kin of Kinloss pub 2003
« on: Monday 06 August 18 14:48 BST (UK) »
My attention was drawn to the above publication just a few days ago and I am trying to fill in a few more details since I understand that there may well be members of the Ross family who have been in the area, farming Concession 2, Lot 37 since 1860 until at least 2003. Those interested can find out more on familysearch.org but I am particularly interested in a Kenneth Gordon Ross 1925-2001 and his wife, Helen, 1930-1994. Not being a Canadian citizen I cannot access pertinent records and would like to discover when/where they married and where/when KGR spent WW11. I haven't Helen's surname but her middle initial was "A". I do not know if they had any children but if so I'd like to contact them if possible. KGR moved to North Battleford and joined the RCMP, retiring c.1970. There is a brief obit on fso.org but not much else. Any further info very much appreciated and thanks in advance.

The only Ross family I see there in 1880 was David.  Born Scotland 1814, settled in 1858 he was at Concession I lots/25,26,27,28.  https://digital.library.mcgill.ca/countyatlas/searchmapframes.php

You should check the Census 1861-1921 forward search Bruce County and they are free from here http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/census/Pages/census.aspx

There is an ancestry tree for Kenneth Gordon Ross - so you may be able to make contact that way.

Hello,

There is an index to volume 1 of the book in question... there are many Ross family members listed in the index.

The second volume deals with the farms/families in the area.  I don't see an index, but perhaps you could contact the Bruce Museum for a lookup?

Many thanks to all for your helpful tips. The 1921 census is the correct Robert (James) Ross family with Martha/Jane/Jennie Mirehouse, wife, and 2 of the 4 sons, George & Robert Russell. There is a wealth of information on this one sheet with Robert's brother, George, sister, Catherine, brother Malcolm and his 2nd wife as well Gaunt family and even Jane Mirehouse ne้ Clark, mother of Martha & Martha's brother John F Mirehouse...and possibly others. Magnifying glass needed to read printout, pdf @ 200% good despite the overwriting. The "Martha" worries me a bit...otherwise she is Jane/Jennie on bmd info...I'll follow up with libraries.
