If in doubt, you can always right-click something and select "Properties". That will bring up a box describing what that something is.

If it's a shortcut, it will show you where clicking on it will take you.

If it's a folder full of files, it will count them and add up their sizes.

Here are a pair of Properties from my machine:

Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.
