I can see a possible entry for a son Peter on FS for 1813 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NJ7G-Q5S  but that is it for this couple.

There is an entry in 1841 for a 15 yr old Mary Dickenson in Hidley Wigan, living by herself I think and showing as a silk weaver (similar occupation to the Mary Snr from 1851).

Was there an occupation given for MJD's father Thomas on her 1855 marriage to Peter?

Ha, Monica -thats been my problem for a LONG time - I think 1 have them and then I dont! 

On her marriage MJ senior says her father is Thomas and a labourer and her death shows lines (for first name) Dickinson - farmer deceased and lines for all  mothers names, this was signed by a bank trustee - her only daughter (MJ) dying 3 years earlier.

On her marriage MJ junior declares her self to a Cotham and daughter of Robert. I have found nothing to prove this, even finding a Robert Cotham has been elusive!

Looking again I actually have nothing to show that she was born or even used the name Dickinson!

In the '71 census she is just ditto'd  under MJ and Peter Urqhuart and then married using Cotham. However her husband chose to record her death as an illegitimate birth with 'reputed' father, Robert Cotham.   

Its all a mystery - however I keep in mind there were born somewhere!

Thanks for the suggestion Capricorn - this Mary Jane died in the same quarter and mum living with her mum,dad and siblings in the 1851 census - the birth certificate and census shows the same address.

There's a Mary Jane Cottam, no mother's maiden name, 1850 Chorlton, Lancashire - which is, I admit, a long shot - but long shots sometimes hit the mark
