Annie born 1917 West Ham....
« on: Tuesday 07 August 18 14:50 BST (UK) »
Hello, I am stuck with one of my trees and hope someone can help me:-

I have in the 1939 Census an;

 "Annie R F Teetgen (married name) born 26th Sept 1917 in West Ham"

She was an evacuee, but no children are listed with her, so I think she was maybe a nanny to help the 5 other ladies who lived in my house (in Wembdon, Bridgwater, Somerset) with their children in 1939, all of whom are from West Ham.

I have tried to find Annie's maiden name using her date of birth and place - but cannot find anything. I have tried to find her husband ?? Teetgen (could be Tertgen?) assuming he was born around 1917 in West Ham too, but again cannot find anything.

Any pointers, help, advice would be greatly appreciated - Thank you  :)

Please can you clarify where on the record it says she was born in West Ham?

This is a register not a census, and places of birth aren't included.

You may want to look at Annie Louisa Frances Styles, who married James Teetgen in Canning town in 1920.

Also suggest you take a much closer look at the date of birth on the original, it's much earlier than you have quoted!

Jen B - yes thats a good point! The other people who were living in the house were all born in West Ham, so I have (stupidly) assumed that Annie was born in West Ham too! Ive been going round in circles and realise Im making assumptions about things, and getting myself in knots!! ::)

AntonyMMM - I have spent hours if not days thinking it was Annie Styles to then realise the DOB was completely wrong. So Ive had to scrap that tree and go back to square one  ???

Thank you JenB!! It sometimes takes a fresh pair of eyes to spot these things - I think Ive been looking at it all for too long and got in a complete muddle! It would explain why Im struggling with two other women who I need to trace, their DOBs are now changed from 1913 to 1893!!

Thank you (scuttling off slightly embarrassed at the rookie errors  :D)

Annie and James appear to have had a son who was a prisoner of war in the Far East in WW2.
