Looks like army uniform but which one

Hi all.

I hope someone could help me. I've come across and ancestors photo. Looming to date it roughly. From what i can see it looks like an army uniform....i can see a little pin on it also......just not sure if its a ww1 or ww2 photo...can anyone help me.

WW2 period battledress, could be army or RAF. There seems to a badge, level with his left pocket, which might give more clues.  Anything more on shoulders or sleeves?

It looks like the royal Irish fusiliers badge pin....but i dont really know much. I noticed that ribbon above the pocket. But im not clued up on this so didnt like to say......if its ww2 his name is Edmund McDonald. Where would o go to see if there's records??

Difficult to tell from a monochrome photo, but could it be the General Service Medal (which would suggest he was a "regular"
