Canterbury Probate Records (1396-1858) Database - Inventories
« on: Tuesday 07 August 18 21:21 BST (UK) »
Hi all

I have been looking up some Wills and inventories on the above database and I am a bit puzzled with the inventories.

The database lists references for the original copies and registered copies of all Wills [where applicable] under two columns. PRC/17 = a registered copy of a Will in the Archdeaconry Court, and PRC/16 = an original will in the same court. The references PRC/32 and PRC/31 are the same for the Consistitory Court.

The references for the Inventories however appear to be listed in one column, not split into two groups. These are PRC/10, PRC/11, PRC/27 and PRC/28.

I assume PRC/11 are registered inventories in the Archdeaconry Court and PRC/10 are the original ones, and PRC/27 and PRC/26 are the same for the Consistory Court.

Can anyone confirm this for me?

Thanks

Matt

Perhaps the notes page might provide the answer?

Links for various categories of records.

Hi

Thanks for that. Interestingly the database states that those listed under PRC/11 are "Archdeaconry Court inventories - originals in boxes" so I am assuming that those are the originals and PRC/10 the registered ones (presumably both contain the same info).

Do you know whether the Acts that are listed (PRC/3/) are originals or registered volumes?

Thanks again

matt

I would expect Acts to be register entries rather than separate sheets. And a random search of the database, selecting Act in the Type column, appears to show all the PRC3/ entries in the Register column, not in the Original column. But you could email the archive and ask for confirmation?

Hi

Thanks that confirms what I thought. I might email them to double check though.
