He seems to have married in NSW in 1925.  If so, then he would have been required to provide information about his parents to the officiating celebrant.

JM, found an online tree that stated that Edith was born in SA. Found her birth (Bignal) and believe she married in VIC: 1892 7404 BIGNELL Edith to JONES Jas. The tree has Zainab’s 3 step-brother’s names and their births can be found on VICBDM (1893-1897)

The 1916 birth cert will give info about Zainab's parents, including her mum's maiden name... and when/where they married ....  Then following up from that info, a search for that marriage may lead to info about Zainab's dad's parents ....  perhaps it was an informal marriage and the 1925 ceremony may be the record to chase.

There are mentions of Crean on NAA and he applied to allow his nephew Mohamed Sheriff - husband of Zainab?) to enter Australia.

I think his name was actually Karim/Kareem

It fits nicely with nephew Mohamed and daughter Zainab.

The death of “BOX CREAN 348/1936 59 YRS SYDNEY SYDNEY”, comes up at 15 March ‘36 and there is a funeral notice 17 March for Muslim Cemetery, Rookwood, without name given, with wife ‘Florrie Cream Box’ and father of ‘Mr and Mrs Mohomad Shrape’. Could Shrape be Shariff?
