« on: Wednesday 08 August 18 07:23 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am looking for that father of Ann HARTLEY/HEARTLEY born about 1836 in Witton. Her mother was Mary but the father is no longer around in 1841.

Thanks

Hi

Don't think it's her unless Ann and a later daughter are to different men. First daughter Rachel was born in Sawley, Yorkshire - already on Rootschat in Yorkshire post and no baptism records survive for that time frame I understand.

Mary had three daughters in 1841 - Rachel, Ann and Margaret b abt 1840 - all Hartley. I used the GRO and found a possible mother of Margaret as SHAW so at the moment I am assuming that this is Mary.

There is a possible death for Margaret in 1843, aged 2 years.

Rachel and Ann are living with Mary and her new husband William WADDINGTON in 1851, Blackburn.

Marriage: 27 Mar 1842 St Mary the Virgin, Blackburn, Lancashire, England
William Waddington - (X), full [age], Dyer, Widower, Blackburn
Mary Heartley - (X), full [age], Spinster, Blackburn
    Groom's Father: Thomas Waddington, Weaver
    Bride's Father: Thomas Heartley, Miller
    Witness: Joseph Fairbrother; Thomas Livesey
    Married by: A. L. Courtenay
    Register: Marriages 1841 - 1843, Page 64, Entry 128
    Source: LDS Film 1278817

As Mary is a spinster on marriage that means she cannot be the person with maiden name Shaw who was the mother of Margaret. Also as she is a spinster she could well be the Mary Hartley, mother of Ann, found by both myself and Garstonite.

What surname does Mary marry under and what is her father's name on the marriage - that will give you her birth surname to know if she did have any illegitimate children or was married before  :)

Added - marriage has been found above so she was a spinster when she married William.

Hi emeltom

Thanks for that. You are absolutely right. I will have to rethink what I was making assumptions about.
All good
