My daughter was born in 1967 in Belgium.
We had to apply for British Citizenship for her some time later.
We were quite affronted that there was a possibility she would not get it despite we her parents both being born in England of parents also born in England and so on for many many generations, well we had no evidence    any  of our ancestors had been born abroad.
She was granted British Citizenship  but it was worrying.

During the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, we were living on one of the RAF bases.  At the height of the troubles, a huge convoy set out from Limassol going to Episkopi and Akrotiri - what should have been a 20- to 30-minute journey took many, many hours.  One baby was born on a bus during that long journey and I understand that 2 more births happened in the car park on their arrival on the Base.  I'm guessing that 'Bus' and 'Car Park' would appear on birth certificates there...and then the added difficulty of getting British Citizenship!

I noticed this snippet on the BBC Site this morning:

I wonder what it will say on the Birth Cert?

GRO have rules for such things, the place of birth should probably be recorded as:

"Cornwall, on the way to the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro"
