George Smith b1869 Spalding Lincs
« on: Wednesday 08 August 18 19:41 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I found George with his wife Elizabeth b1862 Tenterden, residing in East Ham in 1901 Census, Piece 1607, Folio 73, Page 52

Can anyone possible find them perhaps in 1911 and 1891 Census for me as cannot find.

Many thanks in advance,  Sue

Try looking for the kids.?
Can the kids be tracked in indexes from her Maiden name?
When/where did Elizabeth marry George?

I think this may be Caroline's birth registration:-

SMITH, CAROLINE       TOBIN
GRO Reference: 1900  D Quarter in WEST HAM  Volume 04A  Page 281

The family are living in the West Ham registration district in 1901.

Hhmm, maybe that isn't the right one.  Can't find any Smith/Tobin births that fit the children listed in the 1901.

Hmm, interesting.........

No 59 High Street, East Ham, West Ham in the 1911 census.

If someone knows how to find the enumerators schedule this can be checked to see if No 59 was occupied or not.

Hi,  been looking for 1911 cannot find.

One thing we have found out through Hubbys DNA there is a strong Romany Gypsy connection somewhere,  but we still have not found further connections,  but I remember Hubbys mum saying that his smith Granddad was a strong man and could lift heavy sacks of coal which is funny as this George is a coal porter.

There's just a chance that the children could have been registered in Romford and West Ham districts as Barber.
With mother's maiden name Baker (see Mabel's post)
Emma Elizabeth, March 1888, Romford
Frederick William, March 1890, Romford
Adeline, Sep 1892, West Ham
George Thomas, June 1895, West Ham
Frances Ada, Dec 1897, West Ham
Caroline Barbara, March 1901, West Ham

Might be them in 1891, no George Smith, was Emma then enumerated in two different places? Or it could all be wrong!

Possible Barber-Baker marriage in Gravesend in 1887. Don't know if it might be on CityArk (won't work for me at the moment)

1911 free index, Barber.

Sorry are we saying that Bakers could have changed name to smith?
