A quick question re baptism records

Hello,

On a baptism record if there is no father named am I to assume that the child was illegitimate?

Could the father be deceased or is that usuallly recorded?

Probably illegitimate but would need to have more info.

Can you put up a snip of the record or transcribe what it says, with info about the parish, date and name, please.

Unfortunately I don't know how to do a snippet - would love to know as I also have a name I can't read.

However, for the baptism I have two records which I think are for the same person.

Both are on Ancestry and are apparently PRs for Hankerton, Wilts.

One is on a piece of paper and reads "20 or 28 (not sure, transcribed as 28 but I think could be 20) John, son of Betty Chivers"

the second looks as if it has been written into the register and reads "1805 26 John son of Bet (Bet has been crossed out) Eliz. Chivers"

I'm assuming it was first written on a piece of paper, then copied into the register with the more formal Elizabeth. Not sure abut the date discrepancy though.

Additional information is that the month was April.  I read the date in the register as April 28, 1805.

Looks very likely to be a case of illegitimacy, though it is not explicitly stated.

I thought it would most likely be illegitimacy. Can't find a bastardy record, nor any other trace of Elizabeth in Hankerton. There are far too many in the larger area.

However on what I assume is her son's marriage in Hankerton in 1829 to Elizabeth Hayward, one of the witnesses is an Elizabeth and then a name I can't read. I'm hoping that it could be John's mother. I don't know how to post a snippet but if anyone has access to the marriage and can decipher the name I would be very grateful

Hello Brie,

Snipping is quite easy - once you know how!

Click bottom left, the "Windows" button,

From the dropdown menu, select Programs,

Moving right, find and click on "Windows Accessories",

That opens another dropdown menu,

Somewhere in the middle is "Snipping Tool",

Click on that and follow instructions on the little dropdown menu.
