Printers

Hi can anyone help, some years ago when l first started l had a printer that was on a continuous  roll
of paper when l moved abroad sadly this was left behind, l am not sure what it was or its name but it was great to print off the family tree, l would like to print off my trees but not on A4 and try and stick together, can anyone tell me where l could find one of the other printers or what they are called.

Hi Sandra,

I suspect that 'continuous roll' printers have gone out of style except for professional use (Photographers, Banners, etc). I googled a bit and Epson seems to be the main manufacturer that still does 'continuous' paper. The EPSON SURECOLOR SC-P800 (just under 1000 euros street price) doesn't take roll paper as standard but Epson does offer a compatible accessory "roll paper unit" for an additional 250 euros (or $200). An alternative, of course, would be to have your family trees printed (on-line) on rolls at a professional printing shop.

Neil Fraser (of Fraser & Fraser, and Heirhunters fame) posted a similar request a few years ago.

Apart from a Plotter, the only other printers I could find were computer-mainframe style printers - and they would cost a few thousand £'s

I'm not sure if Neil ever solved the problem?

Ahh the days of the good old dot matrix printers ... when we were young LOL

Maybe you could compromise and go for an A3 (or even a - very expensive - A1) printer? At least you wouldn't need as much sticky tape ...

Just had a bit of look online .. there are various brands (Epson, Oki, Lexmark) that still make dot matrix printers and there are various models.

In Australia there is one retailer where the cheapest is $415 and the most expensive $3253. They might be cheaper in England .... Of course you''ll need to take the price and availability of the cartridges into consideration as well.

Major on line retailer has dot matrix printers starting at 150pounds, takes fan fold paper and use ink ribbon in a cartridge.

My local has a printer for architects drawing and the likes, I've had trees printed on this. I sent them a pdf from my family tree program and they did the rest.
