patentree and ffroig furlong
« on: Friday 10 August 18 16:53 BST (UK) »
I am transcribing an indenture dated 1742 (Stoell Somerset) and have the following

"Those two closes of land and pasture lying together the one called North Close otherwise patentree and the other ffroig furlong containing by estimation thirty acres more or less"

The writing is clear.  Are patentree and ffroig furlong the names of the closes, or do they actually have a meaning?

Help please

Google translate says that ffroig is Welsh and means wrinkle. Maybe uneven ground.

The only Frog Field I could find was a B&B in Glos.  I had thought the ig in ffroig might be Norsk, didn't think of Welsh!

Thank you both very much for your input and help.
