Confused about Elizabeth BERRY nee CRILLEY
« on: Friday 10 August 18 17:13 BST (UK) »
I'd be grateful for some advice about Elizabeth BERRY nee CRILLEY.

Elizabeth Crilley was baptised 20 October 1816 at St. Peter's Liverpool, daughter of Patrick and Ann nee NORBURY.

Betsay (sic) Crilley aged 25 appears with her parents and some siblings on the 1841 Census.  I naturally assumed that this was Elizabeth - until I found that on 8 July 1839 Elizabeth, of full age, married Isaac BERRY.  I cannot find much at all about Isaac and Elizabeth Berry, although I think he is probably the Isaac Berry born Liverpool 18 April 1820, a mariner.

If Elizabeth was really at least 21 in 1839 she must have been born by early 1818 at the latest.  I cannot find any other Crilley baptisms or burials suggesting that there were two Elizabeths in this family.

Any ideas please, or pointers for me to follow?

Thanks,
Melbell

If Elizabeth was born 1816 she would be about 23 in 1839  and about 25 in 1841

If Elizabeth was with her parents in 1841 and indexed as Crilley it is possible this was an error.  Isaac was possibly at sea and she was just entered as part of the Crilley family

ADDED I have not yet found the 1841 entry  ;D

Thank you - I had wondered if that was the case myself: Elizabeth 'returning' to live with her parents while Isaac was at sea. (Hope it's a case of 'great minds think alike' rather than 'fools seldom differ'!!). Don't worry about the 1841 Census - it's hard to find, but it is there, I assure you.

hepburn - thanks to you too.  I have extensively researched this family.  I have William, although not some details of the others.  They're very elusive!

I see why I could not find 1841 it has been transcribed as Betsay Audy on Ancestry and Crively on FindMyPast.  HO107/557 bk18 f45 p28

When quoting census information on lookups it is always helpful to those trying to help if you quote the reference as well as the details, that way we don't waste time looking for it  :)

Yes, point taken, sorry to waste your time.

Crilley is very badly transcribed all over the place and has made searching very difficult over the years, but I am still beavering away at it.

I have never found the family in 1851.  Someone suggested a few years ago that their most likely address was a missing piece of the census.  I cannot find father Patrick in any merchant seamen's records (online) either.

Thanks again for your help.

Not a problem Melbell, I knew they were there somewhere   :)

Patrick is an ag lab in 1841, when does he show as a Merchant seaman.  Is this his death
CRILLEY, PATRICK       age 72
1858  Sept Quarter in LIVERPOOL  Volume 08B  Page 24

1851 is available for the street they were living in 1841 (Charter Street - H0107/2178)  As we have seen they could be transcribed as anything  ;D
