Seeking birth records of grandmother born in Lemberg 1913
« on: Saturday 11 August 18 09:48 BST (UK) »
My family and I are trying to find official records of my late grandmother. She was born in Lemberg in 1913. First name: Bronislawa/Bertha Last name: Barth/Halpern. See attached picture from her father's death papers mentioning the same.

I tried https://search.geshergalicia.org/ but couldn't find anything.

Where else should I look? Who can help?

Welcome to RootsChat! ;D

For the benefit of others:
Lemberg is the German name of the Ukrainian city of Lviv.
It was also a city in Poland, especially between WW1 and WW2.

The last name looks like Leiroff or similar.
Where does Barth/Halpern come from?

Welcome to RootsChat from me as well

Hi,

WELCOME to Rootschat from me as well.

I agree with Tony (TonePad), can see the second word and the first letters do not match, so unlikely to be "Barth".

You posted "Bronislawa Barth. We know this much already"
You have not proven with a reference as to why you know this much already.

Any chance of proving that of what you are convinced?

Cheers
Ray

There's a limit on the attachment size but we know already that the father is Leo Barth (or Bart) and the mother is Paula Steinberg. It's written on the first page of the document. We also know that her sister is Henriette Barth, mentioned here above her name. Check here for how the h is hand written in old style German handwriting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurrent

It's Barth for sure.

Thanks bmk1234 for the link on Kurrent
Can see the last name is Barth now, although the 'a' is not formed well.

Good luck with your original post question.

If you are registered by family search you can try the following link.
I could´nt find any hits regarding your query but there are 144 Hits for Barth in the 19th century in Lemberg.

https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/results?count=20&query=%2Bsurname%3ABarth~&collection_id=1910265&offset=20

The birth record for Bronislawa could still be within the privacy law range and not freely available.
I think the records would then be in the registry office in Warsaw.

Thanks Dave!!! Yes we couldn't find online records either. I did find this this page though: http://jri-poland.org/town/lwow.htm

It's a project that aims at digitizing those missing archives from Lemberg (aka Lwow). But I haven't been able to get in touch with the 2 individuals mentioned - Mark Halpern and Patrick Atlas.

Can you please help me understand why you believe the records would be in Warsaw? I tried to identify the exact location on Google Maps but there were a few locations so can you help me narrow it down please?
