Charles "Keat" (..........) Probably with the 28th Inf Division WW2
« on: Saturday 11 August 18 15:12 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find a US serviceman with just a Christian name and a nickname .
I have a photograph but no more information and on the reverse of the image it had that
His Christian name was Charles  and his nickname was "Keat"
He served in WW2 probably with the 28th Infantry Division . I know this as he was based at some time in South Wales in the U.K. probably during late 1943 and early 1944.
It is possible that this man's family owned a department store.

This is a tough one to crack .The last one like this took 6 years ,Let's hope you Rootschatters can solve this one a little quicker

See what you can do

Many thanks

I could enter the name Charles in the name search box, which reduced the number of records to 39.  Search on Keat didn't produce a match.

This Jim West might be able to help you:

West's is the first entry on the roster for the 28th, so he would be the one to contact for help.

I entered Charles in the search box, then Googled the last name along with "department store Indiana". Here are the results. 1 Clothing Store and 1 Theatre which were open by WWII. 1 supermarket that opened in 1947, and 1 discount store that didn't open until 1985.

A wild thought - could "Keat" possibly refer to Charles looking like (or being able to impersonate) Buster Keaton?
If so, "Keat" would be a red herring and you couldn't discount any surname until disproved.

If the photo includes a uniform with any visible insignia we might be able to identify a specific unit.
