Another newspaper article in the Arbroath Herald and Advertiser 4th August 1939, records that at that time he was minister of the United Presbyterian Church at Portage la Prairie in Manitoba.

There is an article in the Dundee Evening Telegraph of 14th February 1949 which tells of the Reverend George W. Abernethy spending a holiday in his native Dundee.

On his return he gave lectures to his congregation about the 'conditions on this side'.

There is also a reference to gift being sent, as a result of his lectures,  to two elderly ladies in Dundee from the Sunday School of the First Presbyterian Church, Grand Forks, North Dakota.

If this is the same person -

the 1891 census has George White Abernethy living at
29 Grove St Dundee

with:

David aged 33 - occupation Carter
Mary aged 30
Elsie aged 4
Henry aged 2
Maggie aged 8 mths.

Regards,

Lindsey

The 1901 Scotland census has George W Abernethy living at

12 Smillies Lane Dundee with:

Henry Abernethy (40) - Occupation: British Railways Carter
Mary Ann (40)
Elsie (14)
Henry (12)
Maggie (10)
Robert (9)
Georgina (4)
Kate (4)
John (3)

Not sure why likely father seems to have different name, but same occupation?

Regards

Lindsey

US - Paton

Scotland - Paton, MacKenzie, Morrison, Urquhart, Bryce, Lindsay, Izett, Ferrier, Crawfurd, Strath,
England - Williams, Jones, Whitnall, Abbott, Rayner, Rowden, Hawker, Northcote, Seaman
