Translation from Icelandic (Very short document)
« on: Monday 13 August 18 18:23 BST (UK) »
I am trying to get a translation of the attached photo copy of a confirmation of a birth.   I do not read a word of Icelandic although I can read just enough of the attached to really want to know what the it all says.    I would be most appreciative if someone could translate it.  Thank you
Jim

As you haven't had any genuine volunteer for translation [unless you have but by personal message?], jim, try transcribing what you can see into a digital form [word or otherwise] then casting it in google translate.

With the help of http://icelandic.typeit.org/  and online translation,

fæddar = born
skirður = baptised
foreldrar = parents
hjón I = married couple in
rett samkvæmt prestsþjónustubók = according to the priestly service book
prestakalls = pastoral call
prófastsdæmi = a federation of parishes

fæðingarvottorð is Icelandic for Birth Certificate.

My S-i-L (being Icelandic) is having a go at translation.
More as soon as I get anything.

Sister-in-Law says:

Birth Certificate
Magnus Guðmundsson
Born 7 August 1890. Baptised 17 (s.m. ??? not sure as abit illegible but doesn’t look like a date!)

Parents Guðmundur þorarinsson and Vigdís Magnúsdóttir  couple (husband and wife) in Jöðurgerði (can’t read it properly as it could start with F - it’s probably a placename of a farm or small district.

Correct according to priest book (not sure how to translate) - perhaps similarly to a registry - name of the parish is Kalfatjörn (means calfpond - havent heard of it) and its in Kjalarnes diocese (not too far from Reykjavik)

Vottur means witness

Afraid I can’t read the bottom line but it’s a date

"s.m." is probably "same month".
