Taken from parish register of Great Whelnetham

In May 1860, William Steward and Sarah V Steward are witnesses at the following marriage

Henry Hilder widower 59 (father = Richard Hilder, farmer)
Emily Betts widow 58
31st May 1860

Bride, groom and witnesses all signed their names.

I couldn't see the marriage of William and Sarah at Great nor Little Whelnetham, but clearly they had married by May of 1860.

I'm assuming Henry Hilder is Sarah's father - this looks like his possible first marriage (also at Great Whelnetham):
Henry Hilder bachelor OTP
Christiana Fenton spinster OTP
Both signed their names
Married in this church by licence 25th July 1826
Witnesses: Wm Fenton and Fredk Fenton (both signed)

Thanks so much Anne. Emily Betts was his third wife and I didn't know about her at all. I have been trying to track her but she is not on any other trees as a spouse of Henry Hilder. So new to all other researchers of the family.
This may have been her third or fourth marriage. I have looked at a possible Surrage/ Surrige connection but this will have to be work in progress. I wonder if Betts was her maiden name or a married name??
