Lin- Spinner

The 't' is not crossed so I am not convinced it is a t, though I can't work out what else it could be.  :)

Added: I see there is an occupation of Lint Dresser, so I presume this is Lint Spinner.
I would look at Catherine in other censuses to see what her occupation is for comparison.

Lint spinner?

Best regards,
Karen

That's what I see too....it's not uncommon to see an uncrossed "t" on documents of this age.

The name at the very bottom of the page looks very much like Robert SomethingOrOther. If it is indeed Robert, then the "t" at the end is not crossed, either.

There was a Lint Mill in Stewarton (or just outside it)  -just finding it hard to find evidence online at the moment ::) - although today there is a cattery using the name Lintmill Cattery and a street called Lint Brae in the town.

Looby :)

Thanks all for your input.
I looked up the 1851 Census and Catherine was described there as being a 60-year-old widow on Parish Relief, so that was not much help. I think you're all correct about her being a lint spinner.
Kind regards
Margaret
