Army Record
« on: Tuesday 14 August 18 11:30 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I have posted in the past about my grandads army record being at Hayes in 1984 but not showing up online and seemingly lost
I wrote to the MOD at Bourne Avenue in 1974 and 1984 and notice that both times they made a note on his medal card
In '74 it says A199
In '84 it says Div 3a
Could this be the reference number of the document and where it was kept?
Thanks

Could you just remind us of his name and number?

I am Zoe Northeast, granddaughter of Maximilian Double.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

He was  Driver George Collin 91925 Royal Horse Artillery
I first wrote in 1974 then when I found out his brothers regiment I wrote about him in '84 and they gave a lot more info so I wrote again about grandad and they gave the dates of his movements to South Africa, India and Mesapotamia,
It looks like they used the medal cards for reference but that information is not on there. Both his and the brothers record has not come up online
Thanks

Very odd - as you say the medal card/roll do not give information to identify his unit and hence his movements.  My suggestion is that the annotations had something to do with the office tasked to look into the queries, in any event there is nothing there that will help, even if there was a "Division 3 a" at Hayes, it is unlikely to mean anything now the records people are all at Glasgow (and 34 years later).

I don't suppose you have the information about his movements they produced back then?

It's a mystery what happened to it, just have to be grateful for what I do have.
Thanks
