« on: Wednesday 15 August 18 12:47 BST (UK) »

I have 2 family photo's 1 showing Donald and brother Murdo Mathieson in New York.2 Marjory with her brother Avon children Donald and Murdo in New York. Alexander also went to the USA. I can not place Avon in the family or any of the birth records. all were born in Contin Ross except Ewen B: Petty inverness.
I should be grateful for any information. Bruce. :)

Do you have approximate dates for the marriage? The children's births?

Could Avon be a variant or misreading of Ewen?

Had a gt, gt uncle from that neck of the woods called Evan, he was known as Yonie!

Here is the website of Fairburn Estate, like Scatwell & the rest, all had MacKenzie lairds, you might be lucky if they also appear in the Tenants records there!

Hi Skoosh and Forfarian  First Thank you both for the info: yes Avon could be Evan. It seem likely!
The marriage date I have for Donald parish little Scatwell and Catherine parish Petty is 13 Jan 1832 mar: took place in Contin Ross. old parish register.
 Birth of the children :-
Kennith 1833-Catherine 1843- Donald 1848- Alexander- 1851- Marjorie 1854 all in Contin -Ewen 1846 in Petty.
I have had a look at the web page, great, thank you, I will spend some time going through it. I hope to spend some time in Scotland next month.
once again Thank you for your time. All the best Bruce

Baptisms from Scotland's People index
Kenneth 12 November 1833 Contin
Murdo 19 Oct 1835 Contin
Dond 15 March 1838 Contin
Malcolm 9 August 1840 Knockbain
Catharine 11 July 1843 Contin

The fact that the baptisms seem to stop at 1843 is a fairly strong indicator that the family were adherents of the Free Church of Scotland, which broke away from the Church of Scotland in 1843. However they don't seem to be in the 'other churches' section of the index to births and baptisms on SP, so it looks as if the later register or registers have either not survived or not been indexed on SP.
