never mind the question - my computer shortened the subject to Dunford Parish Penis  and I was intrigued (but sorry for bringing it down to the gutter)

BTW I don't get the question either

Apparently King Charles 1 argued with Thomas Dunford over ship money and he had his house pulled down so Oliver Cromwell gave farms from Ireland to them!
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

I think you'll find the Dunford family took their name from the village of that name rather than the other way round.
So are you looking for information on Thomas Dunford who would have lived around the 1640's-50's?

Yes so did mine,so had to read further to find out what a penis had to do with anything.

Mind you without one none of us would have any ancestors !!!

I thought I was being very childish when I sniggered when I saw 'Dunford parish penis'.  Glad to see I am in excellent company!   ;D

And I agree with Jim, the family would have taken its name from the area, rather than the area taking its name from the family.  It was fairly common way back that people were given the name of the place they came from, the name of their Lord, or the name of their occupation.
