Bryan and Anne

Thomas and Kate

The person who my mam got a third cousin match to this is their great grandfather's marriage record.

So you need to find baptism records from James and John Hyland.

Oh looking at that register it might not be easy. Wonder if RootsIreland might be a better bet.

Using it as a search index brings back the following in Athy RC parish, 3rd entry from bottom, James Hyland baptised 6 April 1856, born ? April 1856, parents Bryan Hyland and Anne Kavanagh, the address transcribed as Srowland?, the sponsors were John Keogh and Mary Anne Dunne:

There is a baptism for a John to this couple in 1858, even worse quality.

An Anne Hyland died at a reported age of 57 in 1880 at Mount Hawkins, just a possibility:

A Bryan Haelin died at a reported age of 80 in 1902 in Athy Workhouse Death, again just a possibility:

If the following marriage is correct, it looks like Bryan may have been a.k.a. Bernard and vice versa, from the Athy RC parish register, 13 September 1853, Bernard Hyland of Tomard married Anne Kavanagh of Srowland, witnessed by Bryan Kavanagh and Bridget Mack (top of left page):

Great finds.

You would expect John Hyland (I've come across him in the newspapers as master of the workhouse) would have got the spelling of Bryan's name correct if it is the correct Bryan.

There is a Mary Hyland in Tomard in Griffith's Valuation. Possible mother. Print date 1852
