Marriage Look-Up: Hasketon, Woodbridge
« on: Thursday 16 August 18 21:22 BST (UK) »
I would be very grateful for a look up please.

I am looking for the marriage Charles Robert BORRETT & Ellen CRAKE (Woodbridge 1893). I can find no record of Ellen  before her marriage to Charles.  Borrett is spelt many ways and has sometimes appeared as Barrett but in the marriage index it is correct. Really interested to see if Ellen has been married before.

TIA
Tilly

To look up a marriage you need to know which church they married in.  The Woodbridge RD covered a lot of different areas

Unfortunately Carol I don't have that information; all I know is that the family lived in Hasketon.  I believe that some of the family are buried at St Andrews, so this might be the church.

The 1901 census shows son Harold J.

Using the GRO index to look at his birth registration, this shows the mothers maiden name to be Crake, inferring Ellen hadn't been married before.

Thank you Dawnsh,

That ties up that little query.  Now to find out where she has been hidding; found her on the 1891 census.

Must remember to use the GRO more - it's one of those tools you know about but didn't use in this case.

If anyone could help with the marriage I'd very much appreciate it.

Thanks again

Tilly

Having checked these parish registers today, I can confirm that the marriage did not take place at Hasketon, Hacheston or Grundisburgh

The page range for that quarter is 1373-1421, the entry you are interested in is 1415 which is at the top end of the range.

The GRO order for marriages is Anglican, Jewish, Quaker, registrar attended (for other denominations) or register office.

In this case though, the Guild of One Name Studies marriage locator suggests Woodbridge St Mary

According to the 1901 and 1911 census's Ellen was born 1872 in Lowestoft. Can't find a birth or census record for her.
