Martha Elizabeth Rose

Hi

I'm trying to trace Martha Elizabeth ROSE.

It is believed that she was born in Kent c1824

What I do know is that she married a James Stacey  on 23 Aug 1842 • Maidstone, Kent.

James was in the army and Martha went with him when he was posted overseas.

Her and James had the following children:

Elizabeth STACEY b. 1845 in Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia.
James STACEY b. 1849 in Russell, New Zealand
John STACEY b. 1852 in Auckland, New Zealand

James died in 1852 in New Zealand

Martha then married again.  This time to Samuel Campton (also a soldier) in 1853 in Auckland, New Zealand.

They had 5 children and Martha died in New Zealand in 1903.

During the 1840s and 1850s she was a member of Governor George Grey's household here in New Zealand.

I would love to be able to find out where she came from in Kent and who her parents were.

Her marriage names her father as William occ Labourer

1841 has a couple of possibles

20 yr old Martha Rose, a Female servant, in West Wickham. Also there a 15yr old Ellen Rose, also servant - possibly a sister?

or

15 yr old Martha Rose, a female servant in Hollingbourn

That is assuming she was in Kent in 1841!

Not a Labourer but may have left the Service by 1842?

Her death cert doesn't have her parents listed and just list her place of birth as Kent, England

Thats a shame the Death Cert doesnt have any extra info. I was lucky with my Certs.
