tab11.  Hill Top at Flint Hill (as mentioned by barryd)is where I live and there is no street of that name here now.  There were many isolated groups of buildings and small streets but none that I am aware of that were actually named Hill Top - which is actually a small district in the large village of Dipton.  Much of the original hamlet of Hill Top was pulled down in the 1960s

If it was on the 1891 Census, it will be on stanmapstone's map on the left hand side.  Some of that is still there but none of that was a street name Hill Top - it is just the general area and the number 12 is probably just the 12th entry on the corresponding Census return.  A surname would help to identify which building it refers to (three of those buildings were pubs!)

In 1891 the Village of Hill Top apparently starts at RG12; Piece: 4094; Folio: 33; Page: 62 Schedule No. 354, and is marked as finishing at RG12; Piece: 4094; Folio: 37A; Page: 71 Schedule No. 413. None of the properties are numbered, and only four are named;
Walton's Houses, the Board Inn, Ushaw College, and St. Joseph's Schools.
Not the correct Hill Top

????????????????? Walton's Houses and the Board Inn are long gone.  Ushaw College is a large Catholic school/seminary and is several miles away!  The nearest schools named St Josephs are at Hare Law which is about a mile away and at Stanley, about 3 miles away.  There have never been schools at Hill Top.

Could it be Isabella Smith age 44 and her 4 children aged between 7 and 18?  Or Thomas Smith age 37 and his wife Martha Smith age 41?  They are the only ones I can find on the 1891 Census where the description actually fits the real Hill Top.

Stan

Apologies, that is a different Hill Top.
