Watkinson's Pocklington York

I'm at a dead end with my Watkinson branch. From a small village in York called Pocklington. I can't get any further back than John Watkinson, born abt 1809, died 20th Jan 1885. His wife was Mary, unsure of maiden name. Born abt 1811 and died in 1883. Their children were Sarah Ann Watkinson 1833-1883 (died within 3 days of her mum, which really intrigues me) and Enzor George Watkinson 1835-1886. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Really stuck.

1851 shows Mary was born in Derbyshire (Holymoorside)- not Yorkshire - so have you looked for a marriage there?

Family Search has an 1829 marriage in Ripley/Scropton Derbyshire between John Wadkinson and Mary Hill but impossible to know if it's the right couple

1861 has Mary b Londesborough Yorks??

1871 - Derbyshire

1881 - Holymoorside Derbyshire

Thank you for your suggestions Carole I will look into them, I only use ancestry though, is there stuff on family search that they won't have or did I just miss these I wonder?

Lots of entries on FS that are not on Ancestry - particularly baptisms pre 1837.  Also many part marriage transcriptions post 1837 showing fathers names.

As Carole W said there are lots of records on familysearch that aren't on Ancestry and it is all FREE, you do have to register but it doesn't cost anything.
