Liza Onions- Joseph Bates

I am looking for any family of Liza Onions who married Joseph Bates in Walsall 1903. They had a son Norman A Bates b 1920 who married Ivy Onions in 1943. I have all the Onions family history but nothing on the Bates side, were there any other children beside Norman ? any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Have you not looked for them on the 1911 census to establish children born 1903-1911?

The 1911 census is free on Family Search but look ups are not allowed on Rootschat

Have you not checked freebmd for Bates births with mmn Onions - mmn's were shown from September qtr 1911?

You have not given her full name as per the freebmd marriage entry - she was Elizabeth Louisa - not Liza

You can also use GRO online to check for Bates births with mmn Onions in case any children were born pre 1911 who died before 1911

His mother it seems was (as CaroleW) posted was Elizabeth Louisa Onions  father Joseph Bates
On census you need to take care as there is Joseph bates wife Elizabeth L and Joseph Bates wife Eliza -very easy to follow the wrong family

Hi Suz, that's exactly what I have been doing following the wrong family, thanks for the correct information.

It is all very confusing I have Elizabeth Louisa b 1881 down as Liza and also Eliza on different census forms. Her mother was Louisa so although it says Liza S in 1891 I think it should be Liza L.

There is only one Joseph Bates marriage to a female Onions in Staffs within the timescale.

There is a 1911 marriage in Notts with a Samuel Bates and Ellen Onions on the same page

Suggest you use the GRO mmn facility to establish children born in Staffs.  The 1903 marriage was in the Walsall RD so if you assume childrens births were registered in Walsall - GRO search has Oliver Joseph b 1904 and Harold Thomas 1908

Use those names when searching the 1911

Presume Norman's 1943 marriage cert confirms his father was Joseph?

Re Joseph Bates.  Born around 1880/1881 - do you have a copy of the 1903 marriage cert showing his fathers name?  If it was Thomas occ grave digger then the 1891 entry shows Joseph as b 1879

In 1901 he is in lodgings in Walsall - b 1881 Burton on Trent occ carpenter
RG13 Piece 2700 Folio 8 Page 8

No birth 1880/1881 fitting that birthplace but there is this one

Mothers maiden name was Tomlinson
