Murphy
« on: Sunday 19 August 18 08:32 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the regiment and number of Bernard Joseph Murphy aka Brian WW2 I know he was in Africa and Italy and there was a mention of  Tank Regiment  but not sure if that was true.

His cap badge looks similar to R.A.S.C though its not very clear.

He was married at the time 1939x to a Daisy Lugard.

Any info however small would be appreciated.

Don't know where you bought the records from but only the Ministry of Defence will have his service record.  You will need his death certificate and birth date, you do not need his number or regiment.  The process is here:https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/apply-for-someone-elses-records

Note also the bit about consent of next of kin.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

I did get death certs and filled forms  to M.O.D  £30 a time got expensive to keep getting the wrong Bernard Murphy.

Just need some ideas as on his marriage it was before war began so no help there.

So it looks like will have to keep purchasing records till I hit the right one by the look of it.

Did you give his birth date when you applied.  Did you apply as next of kin.

Yes i had to explain to MOD  that the name on his death certificate is different to the one he enlisted

with. So that is the complication i have.

He was born in Holland to Dutch parents.

His father died mother remarried a released english POW moved to UK.

He was given an english name along with his stepfathers surname.

When he married 1958  he used his birth names.
