On the '61 and '71 Census Thomas gives his occupation as "Hinge Filer". The marriage cert reads "Iron Shingler" ie. "worked with an Iron Puddler, manipulating puddled balls of iron on an anvil" (from Old occupations)

We have Mary as Thomas' wife in '71 with the children born with mother's maiden name Collins. The marriage cert clearly shows Price, father Higginbotham.

Things don't add up?

But Grace Wall appears to be with her grandfather Daniel and aunt/uncle in 1881 - no sign of parents.

All the above is correct . As far as Thomas wall and Mary children are concerned this was proven correct by my mother who said that Sarah wall ( 1869 ) was my great grandmother.  We also were told that there was twins Mary Jane and grace .  Which ties in with the census . Grace went to live with her aunt which is clarified by Sarah wall married name Phillips  death certificate which states grace Hines Lichfield was informant .

Interesting though about Ann price possibly being a servant by thomad in Aston because we think  Mary Ann Collins was a servant living by Thomas also in 1861
