Finding English Ancestors
« on: Sunday 19 August 18 13:08 BST (UK) »
Hi there

I don't usually use this forum as my ancestry so far has been Scottish/Irish ancestry.

I'm querying this for a friend who is beginning to look into her English ancestry. What are the best sites to use for finding English ancestors and do they have a similar web site to Scotland's people.

Kind regards
Rosie  :)

Also to use alongside freebmd as it gives mothers maiden surnames on births prior to 1911 when freebmd start to list them also ages at death for early deaths.  PDF's for some births / deaths can be ordered from there too (You just need to register)

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/indexes_search.asp

After that it depends where in England you are looking

eg Lancashire  http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/
