Hello! I have had a huge breakthrough using DNA to find information on my Rainey family from Ireland.
I have found a marriage record for Michael Renny (all written as found in the church records- census records show the name as Raney).
Michael Renny Religion: Anglican Marriage Date: 1819 Marriage Place:Quebec (Quebec City), Québec (Quebec)Place of Worship or Institution:Anglican Cathedral Holy Trinity Church Spouse:Mary McNicoll. The record also states he was age 25 and was a weaver.

So now I have an actual place in Ireland to start searching!

I have been looking for John Gilmore born about 1805 & wife Mary Rainey born about 1801. As I now have a bit more information as to where her brother Michael came from, I am hoping there may be more on Mary & John Gilmore as well. I also found that John's parents were Francis Gilmore & mother was named Mary according to a second marriage record for him. No marriage record for John & Mary. Their children were born in Grenville County Ontario Canada.

As Michael was indeed born in Ireland, I am presuming Mary was as well. I am hoping John Gilmore was also.

Any further information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Donna Johnson

Hi.  You don't say in your post how you arrived at 'Michael Renny/Raney/Rainey born abt. 1794 Baleymoney Antrim'

Can you clarify and/or provide link to previous topics?  BTW, you are in an era when there was a paucity of Irish records and, where they existed, their content. I haven't checked your previous posts.

Is there anything relevant on other threads?

Saves others wasting time searching for stuff that has already been found (if any!)

There are a few threads already-
Looking for place of birth- Gilmore family (Canada)

John Gilmore b. 1805 Ireland & wife Mary Rainy/Rainey (Ireland)- advise given in reply #1

John Gilmore & Mary Rainey (Derry/Londonderry)-advise also given here

Need help connecting the Gilmore's from Antrim (Antrim)

James Gilmore of Middlebie 1841 (Dumfriesshire)

I can say that I haven't come across any Francis in the Gilmores in Ballymoney area but I've only been researching them for 30 or so years.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thank you for your replies.

For gaffy- Sorry. It was on his marriage record his place of birth along with his age and occupation.

For aghadowey- Thank you for providing the links.
I am looking for a Francis Gilmore who had a son John b. 1805 and a son Francis. Through DNA matches I have found Francis Jr. b. 1813 living in Osnabruk, Stormont  County, Ontario in 1851.
I have found a Francis Gilmore in South Carolina who is with the Rockingham Va. Gilmore line. He also had a son Francis but this is not the family I am looking for. Same for the Francis Gilmore in Jefferson N.Y. from the Rockingham N.H. line. Of course I am very distantly related to both lines!
Both families originated from Coleraine and as Michael Raney was from nearby, I was hoping to find a Francis Gilmore near there with sons Francis & John.

I will keep looking for more information in Canada as this is mainly where my closest DNA matches are from. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated!

Donna

If all the Gilmore who were supposed to have come 'from Coleraine' actually did live there wouldn't have been room for anyone else in the town  ;D

I had hoped others would do the searching of Bill McAfee research in an effort to see the locations in particular the townland which has lead me on in so many past queries
see http://www.billmacafee.com/1740returns/1740religiousreturnsulstername.pdf
Protestant Householders' Returns (1740): Cos. L'Derry, Antrim (Baronies of Cary, Dunluce, Kilconway and Toome), parts of Donegal and Tyrone [T808/152258] [Sorted by Surname and Place] I have left out first column

1110 Reaney Rainey  Hers  L’Derry Coleraine Macosquin Parish townland not specified
1112 Reaney Rainey  Thomas L’Derry Coleraine Macosquin Parish townland not specified
note Hers meaning not used elsewhere, Wis for Widow is used

1880 Thos Nicholl Nickoll L’Derry Coleraine Desertoghill Parish townland not specified
Edward Nicholl Nickolls L’Derry Coleraine Killowen Parish townland not specified
have run out of time for Gilmore and no townlands yet but quite a nest of parishes demostrated for 1740 and he has other spreadsheets
even parishes should count in DNA terms?
