Great Holt Temporary Instutition Dockenfield, Hambledon Surrey
« on: Sunday 19 August 18 22:20 BST (UK) »
Good evening all I am researching an ancestor Kathleen Mary Cavanagh who was born in Chester 1915 and for some reason according to the 1939 register is living in the above Institution as a patient.  Kathleen died in 1971. I haven't a clue as to why she is there, when there was a mental hospital in Chester. I have tried to look for the above Institution but can't find any information, if there is anyone who can help I would really appreciate it.

Thank you
Kind regards
Heather :)

Did she ever marry?  There is a Kathleen M Cavanagh marriage in 1942 in Surrey

Where did she die?

Wonder if she was living in Surrey prior to 1939

If you look at the image - it has Dockenfield Manor crossed out and Great Holt inserted

There is this account of Dockenfield Manor which won't apply to Kathleen given her age but may be of interest

Good evening and thank you for your information.  Kathleen died in 18th April 1971 and it just says on the GRO index Surrey N.W.  She was born in Chester 1915, I don't know where she was before 1939.  Just another query the Cavanagh family were very religious Roman Catholics is there a RC church near to the Institution does anyone know.

Once again thank you for your help
kind regards
Heather  :)

Found her death wrongly transcibed as Zathleen.  She died as Cavanagh so didn’t marry.

Have you reason to believe she remained in the institution until her death?

If not - a  copy of her death cert may yield some clues but not always a reliable source of info.  It would tell you who reported her death and where she died

Any possibility she was a nun?

Thank you all for your help - strange you saying about her being a nun.  Her nephew is a Friar in the Carpaccio Order and her niece is a Mother Abbess just outside York.

Many thanks
