WWI Red Cross nurse - Theresa Marie CORNISH
« on: Tuesday 21 August 18 03:54 BST (UK) »
I have recently purchased a nice grouping of items that purportedly belonged to a WWI nurse named Theresa Marie CORNISH. They were purchased at a house clearance in Sidmouth in 2012. The purchaser at that time wrote down some details about the nurse which included her name and the fact that she had served at a hospital in Boulogne, France during WWI and was evacuated from Guernsey during WWII.
I have had no luck locating any information about her and would appreciate anything that you may find.

Many thanks,
Kathryn.

If she'd served overseas she should be entitled to BW & V medals but she's not listed at TNA as such.
How accurate is the information?

Difficult to say. The seller said that his father in law cleared houses for a living and that he wrote down the details that he was told on a piece of cardboard and put it with the grouping. He seemed genuine enough. Could be a wild goose chase. Sorry.

You could ask on the Great War Forum
https://www.greatwarforum.org

Jim Strawbridge, a member there, has been working for years on a project about women who served in WWI, and he may know of her.  If not, I'm sure he would be interested.

There are a lot of Cornishs in the Devon area, might be worth approaching the Devon Family History society.
